The 1940's Radio Hour
A Musical by Walton Jones
Director -  Ron Dempsey

Assistant Director - Jennifer Tacbas

Producer - Joyce Ledingham

Picture
A different time is evoked in this marvelously theatrical and winning show, a live broadcast of a The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade from the Hotel Astor's Algonquin Room on December 21, 1942. The spirit of that bygone era when the world was at war and pop music meant "Strike Up the Band" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" (both are in this show) is accurately captured as the harassed producer copes with a drunk lead singer, the delivery boy who wants a chance in front of the mike, the second banana who dreams of singing a ballad, and the trumpet playing sound effects man who chooses a fighter plane over Glenn Miller.  This play is The Island Players' Board of Directors choice.

Our 2012-2013 Season - First Production

  Auditions August 12, 13 and 14, 2012 - Parts for 13 males,  9 females, ensemble
Performances: October 19 through November 12, 2012

Cabaret
A Musical by Christopher Isherwood
Director -  Joan Harris

Picture
Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are coming to power, the seedy Kit Kat Club is the focus of the action.  The story revolves around the cabaret performer, Sally Bowles and her relationship with an American writer, Cliff Bradshaw, who is seeking inspiration for a novel. Adding to the ambiance of the club is the Emcee, the cabaret girls and Fraulein Schneider, the boardinghouse owner. Songs by Kander and Ebb include Cabaret, Tomorrow Belongs to Me, and The Money Story.

The Island Players is an all volunteer community theater, registered as a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) corporation with the state of Georgia.  It is governed and managed by an elected Board of Directors.  Each elected director serves for a 3 year term.  TIP presents 4 main stage productions, and one Young People's Summer Workshop (YPSW), each year.   TIP season members vote for the 4 main stage productions by way of a mailed ballot sent to each member.  One of the main stage productions may be selected by the board of directors as a Director's choice.  The Director's choice must meet certain criteria established in TIP corporate by-laws.  The Island Players is funded through season ticket memberships, box office receipts, and corporate and private sector donations and sponsorships.
